| For Manning and Wayne, telepathy seems to be in play
At some point this afternoon, amid the can't-hear-myself-think din that Houston's Reliant Stadium promises to be, Peyton Manning will position himself as the triggerman in the Indianapolis Colts offense and Reggie Wayne Jersey will move out wide left, arms dangling at his side. They'll be separated by 10 or 15 yards, but connected nonetheless. With verbal communication virtually impossible, Manning and Wayne Jersey will carry on. It's a look, a nod. Maybe a hand signal. It's something, the same something Manning and Marvin Harrison cultivated and relied on for so many seasons. "It's kind of hard to explain, it really is,'' Wayne Jersey said. "He'll give me a look and I'll know what's up. I'm knowing what he's thinking even before he relays the message to me. "A lot of it just comes from practice, with experience.'' Manning will make his 193rd consecutive regular-season start this afternoon against the Texans. Only Minnesota's Brett Favre, at 286 and counting, has a longer streak among quarterbacks in NFL history. Wayne Jersey has started 113 consecutive regular-season games and appeared in 134 straight. Both are tops among active receivers. Being special on game day means being there during the week of preparation, and when no one's paying attention during the offseason. That's when that quarterback-receiver synergy is developed. "You can't get it playing four games, taking six off,'' Manning said. "(Players) have to answer the bell . . . every day. I don't take that for granted. "Marvin was out there every day, full speed, only wanted to go against the No. 1 guys. Reggie and Dallas (Clark) learned that from him.'' The byproduct of always being there and being in sync is steady production. Manning and Harrison hold NFL records for quarterback/wide receiver tandems with 953 completions,NBA Jerseys, 12,766 yards and 112 touchdowns. Among active duos, Manning and Wayne Jersey are No. 1 with 61 touchdowns. No. 2? Manning and Clark with 41. First-year offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen was part of Manning's record-breaking run with Harrison.
