Small Jumps in Cell Service Ratings
Cellular carriers are companies that the general public loves to hate, by and large. This love-hate relationship goes back to the relative infancy of the industry and reflects the somewhat brutal rise of the cell phone as a must-have accessory for the man and woman in the street. Over recent years, however, cell service ratings appear to be improving.
As maturity sets into the cell phone industry,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], cell service ratings have stabilized and are continuing to improve. An annual survey conducted in late 2008 by the Consumer Reports National Research Center gave more good marks than bad to the major carriers. This is a major turnaround from the late 90s and early years of this decade.
As per the survey, a solid 60% of users were either very or completely satisfied with their service. That figure represents a significant rise over the previous year, although the number of cities polled was slightly different.
One of the reasons behind the positive shift in cell service ratings appears to be the competition. As the industry has become more sophisticated, cell carriers have adapted the technology and have finally come to terms with what the consumer wants. On the other hand, there is quite a bit of a way to go.
Cell phone service providers now implement better practices, much to the public's satisfaction. For instance, few carriers automatically extend the contract as it expires - this has for long been a big bone of contention. Consumer rights legislation and the increasing competition appear to focus the attention of the cell phone carriers. While cell service ratings have seen a bit of a perk, one often stops to wonder whether the 100+ class-action lawsuits going on across the country are a party to blame.
On the other hand, a few of the prime concerns continue including the high service costs, especially now with the onset of the recession. Many consumers are turning to pre-paid or pay per minute options and are looking very favorably at companies that offer no contract or no credit check options with unlimited availability.
As the industry continues to mature, there seems to be an increase in efficiency. There are less dropped calls and much better connectivity and with the advent of 3G the cell phone is now becoming a much more sophisticated communications tool. Whilst cell service ratings have definitely advanced,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the advent of new technologies and hybrid service offerings are likely to move the goalposts once again and call for yet more modifications by the existing providers.
