Are You Guilty Of Being A Yo-yo Exerciser And Dieter?
By: Gen Wright
Many people struggle with exercise programs and improving eating habits on an endless basis. It seems like these things are always just out of reach, up the mountain and always something we are trying 'to get'. There seems to be patches of nothing when these things are on the back burner then suddenly it is full tilt fitness and dieting. We want to lose weight, get fit and we want the results now. So,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the dial is turned on full and we are off on another round of all-out effort.
If you continue to ride this roller coaster of 'off/on' fitness and healthy eating,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], stopping and starting exercise programs and diets it will never really become 'something you become'. It will remain something 'you do' when the mood strikes you and the result will be minimal which is not very motivating.
Think of it like a mountain,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], when we are steadily climbing to the top we continue to make progress and all we have to do is keep climbing one foot after the other and we will get there eventually. But when we stop or even worse we slide back to the beginning we have to create momentum again to even restart the climb. It is easier to continue climbing even if we have to slow down or even stop and catch a breath.
Most people start off with such a hiss and a roar that they cannot continue at that high level so they chuck the baby out with the bath water when thing get tough. Things like full on four times a week to the gym and screwing down the food intake so you run out of energy (and motivation) are not long term recipes for cementing fitness and healthy eating firmly into your life permanently. They are at best short term bursts that are not going to be effective as they are impossible to maintain.
We have to cut ourselves some slack here. The journey to true fitness and better eating is a journey made up of thousand small steps not short bursts of full on 100 percent effort then nothing for weeks. You cannot light a big fire.
The real way to do it is to add bits in each week. Maybe just start with two exercise sessions or simply making sure you have your healthy meals that are not processed or refined prepared the night before so you can take them with you or simply have them ready to eat if you are at home.
Just those two things would make a big difference in changing your habits over time and that should be the goal. Slowly these two habits will become so ingrained that they become your new permanent habits and will give you fantastic results even if you never changed anything else ever again.
Over time excess weight will slowly melt away, you will gain strength and fitness from just two exercise sessions (as long as they contain strength training exercise) and you will have so much energy you will find it easy to keep climbing that mountain. Give it a try and see for yourself how well it actually works.
