Indian Falls is located 5 km or 3 miles north of Owen Sound off Grey County Rd 1 in the Township of Sarawak. The drive to Indian Falls Conservation area is picturesque as County Road 1 travels along the the western arm of the Owen Sound.
The Bruce Trail hooks up with a secondary conservation area trail at a point near the falls. The river flows in a slightly southeasterly direction and empties into Owen Sound. Jones' Falls cascades 12 metres or 39 feet over the escarpment. Similar to Inglis Falls, Jones' Falls cascades down over several steps of rock. However, the Pottawatomi River didn't have much flow, at least not in early August. Off to the right of the upper steps of the falls can been seen a cave opening.
The Owen Sound area offers numerous quiet hiking opportunities with abundant plant and animal life to see.
Northwest Grey County includes, the City of Owen Sound and the Town of Wiarton famous for Ground Hog Day and Wiarton Willie. This is the gateway to the Bruce Peninsula with its unbelievable white cliffs, hiking trails and wide range of animals and plants. From Wiarton to Lion's Head and Tobermory the scenery is absolutely beautiful.
Indian Falls is 15 metres or 49 feet in height and descends the rockface like a watery curtain in a straight sheet. The falls and the river are named for the Chippewas of Nawash who settled in this area. The Chippewas of Nawash First Nation is now located in Cape Croker, about 50 minutes north of Owen Sound, and just north of Wiarton on the Bruce Peninsula.
Jones Falls
The rock faces of the Niagara Escarpment's cliffs were formed by the erosion of the soft red Queenston shale beneath hard Manitoulin dolomite in a manner similar to the forces that formed Niagara Falls. The sounds of the rushing waters from the Indian River and the roar of the falls are quite noticeable from a distance. The walk to Indian Falls along the Bruce Trail passes through a canopy of mixed deciduous coniferous woods; maples, cedar, spruce, beech and ash are all part of the mix.
This area contains various trees and shrubs ranging from wild roses to maple trees. Great white trillium [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], columbine are among the wildflowers that can be seen. Birds and wildlife include cliff swallows, pileated woodpeckers, porcupines, woodchucks, garter snakes and painted turtles. The Pottawatomi River below Jones Falls has ideal conditions for migrating fish and rainbow trout, brown trout and chinook salmon use this area as a spawning ground.

The Indian Falls Conservation Area provides habitat for downy woodpeckers, red-winged blackbirds [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], chipmunks and cottontails. There are plenty of fish in the sparkling fast flowing waters. It's possible to view rainbow trouts and salmon swimming furiously against the fast moving waters of Indian River on their way to their spawning areas. If you arrive at the right time in late September or early October it is quite fascinating to watch brave fish maneuvering upstream against the current [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], squeezing through torturous paths along the rocky river beds on their way to their spawning areas.
Jones Falls is located in the Pottawatomi Conservation Area 3 miles (7.8 km) west of Owen Sound at the junction of Highway 6/21 and Highway 70. The walk to Jones' Falls takes about 15 to 20 minutes on a marked trail that follows the Pottawatomi River. The conservation area and the river are named for the Pottawatomi nation that once lived in the area. Today they live primarily on Walpole Island at the southern end of the St.Clair River.
